THE FOOD WEB GAME
Welcome to the FOOD WEB GAME. The purpose of the GAME is for players to experience first hand the complex interactions between the many organisms that make up an ecosystem. We often hear of how a change in some abiotic or biotic factors can potentially cause major changes in the ecosystem which may result in some ecological disaster. In the FOOD WEB GAME, players will construct food webs of increasing complexity. Then opposing players will make a change to the food web and all the players will see the effect that the change has on the ecosystem. The winning player is the one who can cause their opponent's food web to crash before their own web crashes.
Preparing for the Game In this version of the game, the food webs will be restricted to terrestrial (land) organisms. In another version of the game, that you will play later in class, you will be making cards for aquatic food webs. Each player must make at least 8 organism cards to be ready to begin playing the FOOD WEB GAME. AT LEAST TWO of the cards must come from EACH of the following trophic levels :
Click on the Osprey above to learn how each category is defined and to see examples of each category.
Now that you understand the difference between producers, consumers, scavengers, and decomposers you can click the butterfly picture below for instructions on what information you need to research for you to be able to construct each of your 8 (minimum) organism cards.
